Woven on the old market street

Small-batch cloth, wax-resist prints and fired clay from a workshop above the shop in Colombo. Nothing here was made by a machine alone.

Seven rooms of the shop

Every rail below is stocked from the same handful of workshops, so a colourway you loved last month may not come back. That is how hand-dyed cloth behaves.

How we work

We buy the cloth before it is cut, and we pay for the whole batch — not one piece of it. That is the only way a loom keeps running.

  1. Yarn first, colour laterCotton is ordered undyed, then dyed in lots of forty metres so the shade can be repeated honestly.
  2. Wax drawn by handA canting pen, a block, or both. The soft edge you see is the wax cooling as it is drawn.
  3. Cut in this buildingTwo machinists, one table, sizes from S to XXL plus made-to-measure on request.
  4. Wrapped in clothOrders leave in a cotton wrap you can reuse. No plastic has entered this shop since 2019.

Island-wide delivery

Two to four working days anywhere in Sri Lanka, free above Rs 15,000.

Exchange within 14 days

Unworn, with the cotton wrap. Made-to-measure pieces are final.

Paid up front

Workshops are paid when the batch starts, not when it sells. No consignment.

Natural dye, mostly

Indigo, marigold, iron and tea. Where we use a fixed dye we say so on the page.

Art & crafts

Things that outlive the trend

A wood-fired jar keeps water cold for a day. A coiled hyacinth tray flattens itself after a month on the shelf. A block-printed panel fades evenly rather than falling apart. We only stock what behaves that way.

What people wrote back

“Third order this year”

Repeat customer here. The handloom stuff lasts, which is the whole argument.

“Colour is deeper in person”

Photographs do not do the dye justice. Wore it twice already and the fit held up after a hand wash.

“Packaging was lovely”

Arrived folded in cloth with a care note, no plastic at all. Kept the wrap for the return.

End of batch

Market clearance

8 pieces at reduced prices — seconds of colour, sample runs, and the last of the dyed rolls.
